WINDOW RESTORATION

Original windows in a 1904 Edwardian property, with substantial and structural frames in good condition. The choice was to replace the single glazing fixed lights with new 4-16-4 double glazing, with a heat retaining coating to harness the sun’s energy and keep the heat inside. Traditional section beads were chosen to match the original detailing of the house. New opening casements with draught excluders and new, traditional ironmongery, have replaced the old ones that had warped and offered little security.

Matt and his team, Pete and Ash, from @oldenglishwindowco have carefully removed the bulging decorative stained-glass panels, restored and re-leaded them, and replaced a broken section with a perfect match. The client chose to have the double-glazing set behind the restored leaded glass to maintain the street scene and the textured reflections of the original panels.

Initial on-site testing shows a minimum of 5 degrees higher on the double-glazed units compared to the single glazing within the same frame – without the heating being on!

The workmanship, consideration of every detail and respect for the property is exceptional.
